Last week the finalists for the 'Nobel Prize' for teachers was announced. The privilege of not only hearing the inspiring stories of the ten remarkable teachers nominated, but also filming with Professor Stephen Hawking and hearing him talk about his early learning experiences made me think about the value placed on learning. My own early experiences in New Zealand - hiking around mountains, touching electric cattle fences to write up stories about the experience, spending days observing and drawing species of native bird and plant life were the lucky signs for me of an environment where art and science fused seamlessly and organically, despite curricular requirements. Learning how to learn and enabling the conditions to make it happen seem at least as important as what you learn. Thank you teachers everywhere #TeachersMatter
